Growing up in the 1960s in England and being surrounded by the contemporary sports and racing cars of family and friends, John experienced these cars as they were originally built and before they were subject to any form of restoration. He began attending car events as a small child, and this first-hand knowledge has given John a true sense of the driving style and originality of these collector cars.
Having competed successfully in major International Concours with his own cars, and cars on behalf of his clients at Lynx, in 2000 John was invited by event founder Bill Warner to become a member of Bill’s judging team at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. As a Lead Judge, John continues to enjoy his long-standing association with and contribution to this world-class Florida-based event.
In 2007, John was selected for the original Ferrari judging team at the inaugural Carmel-By-The-Sea Concours On The Avenue, and has been invited to become a permanent member of the judging panel. The event hosts a variety of classes including selected models of the Ferrari marque, and is held annually in August during the week of car activities on the Monterey peninsula.
In 2016, John was very pleased to accept a kind invitation to become a member of the concours judging team at the annual UK-based Salon Prive event held at Blenheim Palace.
The number and variety of concours events have developed and grown over the years. John has played a key role in placing a greater sense of importance and value on originality, preservation and conservation. An unsympathetic approach to restoration will detract from and de-value the original period style, history and hand-built attributes of a car.
With the expert knowledge and experience gained across all disciplines of car restoration and preservation, John continues to enjoy his role as a Concours judge, and the opportunity to share his passion for historic cars.
